Germany

Port of Rostock hosts

first STS LNG bunkering

operation

I

n only the second ship-to-ship (STS) LNG bunkering

operation to take place in Germany, the world’s largest

LNG bunker vessel,

Kairos

, operated by Nauticor, has

supplied DEME’s next generation offshore installation

vessel,

Orion

, in the Port of Rostock. This STS LNG

bunkering operation is also a first for the port.

The

Orion

is currently at the Liebherr construction yard

in the Port of Rostock, where it is being outfitted with a

5000 t crane. DEME is a leader in the industry with regards

to the adoption of LNG, with this new offshore installation

vessel being the fifth dual-fuel addition to its fleet,

following three trailing suction hopper dredgers (

Minerva

,

Scheldt River

and

Bonny River

) and a cable laying vessel

(

Living Stone

).

The STS bunkering of LNG is another milestone in

the construction of the

Orion

, which features a unique

combination of exceptionally high transport and load

capacity, impressive lifting heights and green technology.

Bart Verboomen, Head of DEME’s Technical Department,

said: “Our recent fleet additions are unique in their market

segments as the first vessels in our industry to run on LNG.

We want to make sure our fleet is future-proof and exceeds

the current environmental regulations. Therefore, most

of our new vessels are equipped with dual-fuel engines,

which are capable of running on LNG. Many of them are

also already prepared for the new, carbon neutral fuels of

the future and we will continue to scale up our actions to

have the most energy efficient fleet in the industry.”

USA

Jordan Cove LNG receives

FERC approval

P

embina Pipeline Corp. has announced that it has

received approval from the US Federal Energy Regulatory

Commission (FERC) for its proposed Jordan Cove LNG

terminal and Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline.

This approval is a significant milestone for the project

and for Pembina, which acquired Jordan Cove in late 2017,

and has since been working toward obtaining extensive

local, state and federal regulatory approvals. The project

includes a 229 mile pipeline and an LNG export terminal

in Coos Bay, Oregon. Natural gas for Jordan Cove would be

sourced at the Malin Hub, creating a new outlet for natural

gas from areas such as the Rockies Basin.

Approval was issued by FERC following comprehensive

environmental, safety and security reviews. These reviews

included input from both federal and state agencies, Tribes,

landowners and many other stakeholders.

Harry Andersen, Pembina’s Senior Vice President and

Chief Legal Officer, said: “We appreciate FERC’s science-based

approach to their review. The approval emphasises yet again

that Jordan Cove is environmentally responsible and is a

project that should be permitted given a prudent regulatory

and legal process was undertaken.

“The FERC’s decision is due in no small part to our

many supporters who have turned out time and time

again to voice their support for Jordan Cove and to show

that the project is in the public interest, including in

Southern Oregon and the Rockies Basin.”
