An electric-drive
F
reeport LNG is constructing natural gas pretreatment
and liquefaction facilities with a capacity to export
15.3million tpy of LNG. The pretreatment facility is located
at Oyster Creek, Texas, US, fivemiles from the liquefaction facility,
located on Quintana Island, Texas.
The pretreatment facility includes three pretreatment trains
with associated utilities and storage facilities. The liquefaction
facility consists of three liquefaction trains using Air Products’
®
AP-C3MR liquefaction technology. This is integrated into the
existing Freeport LNG import terminal.
Each liquefaction train comprises two entirely
electrically-driven refrigeration cycles. Three General Electric (GE)
75MWvariable-speed electric motors drive the low pressure
mixed refrigerant (MR) compressor, themediumpressure and
high pressureMR compressors combined, as well as the propane
compressor.
