egulations to reduce emissions and climate
change are constantly changing, meaning that
ship owners and operators will have to continue adapting to
new technologies. In particular, emission control areas (ECAs) are serving as a
catalyst for exploring the use of LNG as a marine fuel. Infrastructures are starting to come
into place, and the first orders for bunker vessels have been made (ENGIE/NYK, Shell, Sirius-Veder).
A new wave of LNG export capacity is on its way to the global market by 2020 and, with all of the
new investment in place (especially in Australia), the LNG market is certainly positive, despite low oil
prices and a delayed medium-term outlook.
The need to reduce emissions and climate change has made installing or retrofitting to LNG fuel
gas systems a valuable solution for cost-conscious owners.
