ot all floating LNG (FLNG) projects are alike. In
Fortuna, Ophir Energy has a unique project that
is low cost and simple in both development and
operating philosophy. This simplicity begins with the
petrophysical properties of the reservoir (shallow with
excellent porosity and permeability) and extends through
the hydrocarbon composition and benign sea state through
to the development of the field (well design and converted
LNG vessel solution).
The Fortuna development will be Africa’s first
deepwater FLNG project. The project entered the front-end
engineering design (FEED) phase in July 2015 and the
Final Investment Decision (FID) is expected to be taken in
mid-2016, with first gas forecast for mid-2019. The project is
expected to produce 2.2 million tpy in the initial phase of
development, increasing to 4.4 million tpy when the second
vessel comes on stream.
