n Northern European waters, including the North Sea and
Baltic Sea, there has been increasing interest in LNG-fuelled vessels
because they can help to meet the new and stricter emission
regulations for the emission control areas (ECAs). Although LNG has
been used as a fuel for ships in recent times, more ship owners than
ever are now looking into this as a viable fuel option.
The trend of choosing LNG-fuelled ships for marine traffic in Norway
has been growing consistently, with approximately 50 such vessels
currently in operation. Yet in Finland, another significant
Northern European marine player, there are only a few LNG-fuelled
vessels currently in operation. However, this is about to change.
