ith the Ichthys LNG Project, Japanese energy company INPEX is opening up the largest
discovery of liquid hydrocarbons off the coast of Australia in 40 years. At peak, the project is
expected to produce 8.9 million tpy of LNG, as well as 1.6 million tpy of LPG and 100 000 bpd
of condensate.
Gas and condensate from the Ichthys Field will be exported via an 890 km pipeline to an onshore
processing facility near Darwin, Australia. Most condensate will be shipped directly to global markets
from a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility that will be permanently moored near
the Ichthys Field in the Browse Basin. The project is expected to have an operational life of at least
40 years.
Safety engineering at the project is provided by HIMA Paul Hildebrandt GmbH, headquartered in
Brühl, Germany. The company is supplying 430 control cabinets, including fire and gas (F&G) protection
systems, high integrity pressure protection systems (HIPPS) and the connections to all relevant facilities.
