ABB awarded
Prelude
contract
A
BB has announced that it has been awarded a
five-year contract to provide equipment and services
for Shell’s
Prelude
floating LNG (FLNG) project. The order
includes motors, generators, variable speed drives, and
low voltage switchgear. In addition to this, the contract
covers service and lifecycle management of the electric
equipment, as well as service and support from third-party
vendors.
Spare parts, workshop repairs, technical support and
training will all be provided by ABB. Training will begin soon
after the spare parts and replacement systems have been
procured (this year).
The electrical system will provide power for 14 gas
plant modules, which will enable the FLNG unit to
produce 5.3 million tpy of liquids. Once
Prelude
has
been towed to the northwest coast of Australia, it will be
attached to the Browse basin, where it will remain for up
to 25 years.
Pekka Tiitinen, the President of ABB’s Discrete
Automation and Motion Division, said: “A reliable service
network is crucial for the facility’s productivity.
Prelude
will
be equipped with ABB’s integrated marine solutions for
optimal reliability, flexibility and energy efficiency to assure
higher profitability.”

Texas LNG files FERC application
T
exas LNG Brownsville LLC has filed an application with
the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
seeking authorisation to site, construct, and operate its
proposed two-phase 4 million tpy LNG export facility in
Brownsville, Texas, US.
Texas LNG submitted its request to initiate the FERC
pre-filing process in March 2015. Since then, the company
and its technical, environmental and legal advisers have
completed Front End Engineering Design (FEED), and
submitted draft Resource Reports covering a wide range of
environmental, engineering, reliability, and safety aspects
of the proposed project. Texas LNG has also been in
consultation with FERC and other federal and state agencies,
including the US Fish and Wildlife Service, US Army Corps
of Engineers, US Coast Guard, and Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality. The submitted application included
updated Resource Reports that will be evaluated by FERC
staff as they prepare the Environmental Impact Statement
(EIS) in compliance with the National Environmental Policy
Act (NEPA).
Texas LNG anticipates that it will receive all approvals and
reach Final Investment Decision (FID) in 2017. Construction
will commence shortly thereafter, with first LNG exports
planned by 2020.
