LNG Industry - October 2016 - page 44

Common attributes to look for when evaluating
software for LNG operations include the following:

Customer activity website: increase customer
satisfaction with a common portal for customers,
owners and confirming parties to interact directly with
terminal operators.

Feed gas and redelivery nominations: enable users to
create, view and modify hourly and daily feed gas and
redelivery nominations. Systems should support all
defined types of nominations, such as firm, makeup
and excess services.

Cargo scheduling and tracking: monitor and manage
vessel information, create an annual delivery plan,
track scheduled cargo records for import and export
(liquefaction) and let internal and external users view
and modify the schedule (e.g. 90-day and 30-day).

Confirmations: confirm daily and hourly nominations
with summaries that display confirmation data at any
point in time.

Allocations: distribute measured quantities from
locations to the nominations. Give users the ability to
configure the allocation plan to define measurement
allocation.

Inventory: track quantities, including customer
accounts, storage balances, operational balancing
agreements (OBA) imbalances, terminal inventory and
gas balance.

Billing: generate invoice packets, view various levels
and interface journal entries to general ledger systems;
online and on-demand access for shippers.

Introducing the MODEL 216B
The Portable Powerhouse!
When Performance, Precision
and Safety Matter Most
• No pinch point design for maximum operator safety
• Proven, reliable pinion gear drive for more cutting power
• Faster speed and power for heavy wall, single point cutting
• 3 tool holders for simultaneous bevel, facing and counterboring
• 2 drive inputs for optional high or low speed machining control
In addition to core terminal transaction management for
LNG import and export, commercial software applications
now offer or provide integration with single-purpose
applications for energy marketing, contracts and other
systems that support business activities across the LNG value
chain. Other decision criteria to consider include the impact to
information technology infrastructure, current and future
state, and changing market conditions. When evaluating
automation providers for bi-directional LNG facilities, the
following questions should be asked:

How can the software be adapted to meet the
unique needs of the business without incurring costly
customisation?

How can existing systems be enhanced or modified to
support new business objectives?

How can security and compliance be ensured?

How can multiple devices and platforms be supported?

How can integration and maintenance costs be lowered?
By considering core business functionality alongside IT,
natural gas companies that are making the shift from LNG
import to export can mitigate risk and optimise their
investments in software and other technology.
Positioning for success
Even with the continued lows in commodity prices and
ongoing marketplace volatility, the US remains poised to
capitalise on opportunities in natural gas. The country is on
the cusp of becoming a net exporter of natural gas within the
year. The question is: which energy companies are poised to
help lead the new market?
