n March 2015, after a lengthy negotiation
and selection process, Fluxys’ Zeebrugge
LNG terminal was awarded a 20-year
transshipment contract by Yamal LNG. The
purpose of the contract is to transship up to
107 LNG cargoes annually from Yamal’s ARC 7
ice class carriers into classic LNG vessels for a
period of 20 years, starting in 2019.
This article looks at the infrastructure and
equipment necessary to achieve large scale
transshipment services with minimal send-out
requirements.
Location and nautical
access
The location of the Zeebrugge seaport was
one of the main reasons that Yamal LNG
selected it as its transshipment port. A port
in Northwestern Europe was necessary in
order to ensure year-round LNG export and
Dirk Nous, Fluxys LNG, Belgium,
outlines how the Zeebrugge LNG terminal
is preparing for large scale transshipment services from Yamal LNG.
